The Creche


In October 2004 Search Light Inc. established the Southside Parenting Centre and Crèche with the purpose of providing young school age mothers and pregnant students from Southside Education with a crèche facility that would assist them to undertake and complete their high school studies. The Governor of Queensland Ms Quentin Bryce AC (now Governor General) officially opened the Southside Parenting Centre and Crèche on 23 March 2005. The Southside Parenting Centre and Crèche is funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) and the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The crèche is managed by the Search Light Inc. Management Committee. The crèche is staffed by an experienced Childcare Co-ordinator, trusted childcare workers with assistance from trainee childcare workers and volunteers. There was great excitement at the crèche in 2009 when Scotty Cam and the crew from Channel 9’s ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ tv show surprised us with a total makeover of the crèche.
