Search Light Inc. acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work and live and pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the nation.
Many of the children, young people and families that we support are Indigenous Australians. We value and respect the heritage, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this country.
We seek input from Indigenous Elders in the development of our programs and activities to ensure they are culturally appropriate and accessible to Indigenous people in our community.
We embed indigenous perspectives into our programs at the Early Learning Centre by acknowledging the Jagera people as the traditional owners of the land in Sunnybank, by sharing dream time stories accompanied by traditional dance and instruments and encouraging children to use their mob’s language. At the Early Learning Centre, cultural diversity is acknowledged and celebrated.
